Phish Dazzles with NYE Countdown “From The Hourglass”

Phish rang in 2016 at Madison Square Garden with a mysterious and exploratory twenty-plus minute jam session from inside a psychedelic hourglass that echoed so many of the reasons that we came to love this band in the first place. With mere minutes of 2015 to spare, the band appeared on a temporary stage placed directly in the middle of the MSG floor. Save for the 30th Anniversary show’s JEMP Truck Jam, Phish’s annual “New Year’s Eve Gag” in the 3.0 era has been largely reserved for over-the-top Broadway-inspired productions. 12.31.15 was decidedly different. This was Phish in it’s most pure form. This wasn’t nostalgia. This wasn’t a self-satisfying foray into the world of musical theater. Instead, the foursome delivered a straight-ahead set of improvisation that was accompanied by jaw-dropping visual content that was eerily reminiscent of Summer 2015’s Maganball Drive In Jam. Many people have said that 2015 was the best year for Live Phish since the late 90’s. Trey & Co. made sure that the Hourglass Jam would keep that sentiment stuck in the minds of Phans as they head into one of their most ambitious runs to date to start 2016 — Phish in Mexico.
Watch the clock count down as Phish commemorates their 34th show at Madison Square Garden bringing in the New Year with some of the most psychedelic moments of 3.0. This is PHISH NYE 2015 – “From the Hourglass”. Enjoy!
