Scandinavia continues to generate some of electronic music’s biggest names, and Norway’s Magnus Høiberg is no exception. You may know him as Cashmere Cat, and he is quickly making himself known.
Before breaking onto the scene internationally, Høiberg was known as a turntablist, representing his home country in the DMC World Championships as DJ Final from 2006-2009. It wasn’t until 2012 that Cashmere Cat was manifested, and his production talents were put on display with his debut EP “Mirror Maru.” His sound is an undefinable blend of hip hop, futuristic bass, and ambient melodies, adding depth and originality to an oversaturated market.
The title track of his EP was featured on the much-heralded “Grand Theft Auto V” video game, and he started making moves with an edit of 2 Chainz’ “No Lie,” as well as a remix of Lana Del Rey’s “National Anthem.” After moving from Norway to Manhattan, Cashmere Cat released his second EP “Wedding Bells” in early 2014. Since then he has commanded stages at festivals and clubs around the world, including Dallas’ JMBLYA Festival in 2014 alongside names such as Griz and RL Grime. He also hones his craft outside of the electronic world, recently being a featured producer on pop-princess Ariana Grande’s newest album, “My Everything.”, and is set to be the opening act on her upcoming world tour. Cashmere Cat is not to be missed, and you’ll have your chance to check him out on April 2nd at It’ll Do Club in Dallas!
