Hot off the release of “Funeral March” which is the newest EP by Black Tiger Sex Machine on Kannibalen Records, which, by the way, came out only two months after the release of the “The Grave,” BTSM continue to break new musical ground.
The title track off the EP flips the classic Chopin piece into a snarling 140 bpm banger that switches between insistent piano breaks and pounding saw wave hits. Track two, “The Future,” is an incisive electro thriller co-produced with Hazer. BTSM cap off the EP with “Hardcore,” a dark drum & bass track that samples the original Amen break.
Patrick Barry, Marc-André Chagnon & Julien Maranda, otherwise known as BTSM, run the Kannibalen label and have full control over branding, distribution, scheduling and every other aspect of the releases. They credit this control as the main reason they have been so successful. They enjoy seeing fellow artists grow and become better, and we think this team mentality will take these guys really far.
When asked about the origin of their groups name, BTSM had this to say:
Black Tiger Sex Machine is really just four words that Julien put together as a joke that was unrelated to our musical project. We were having trouble finding a name and another friend of ours suggested we use that. We felt it represented us well because it was kind of dark-sounding and over-the-top and translated the feeling of our music and image.
You can catch BTSM at several upcoming shows including: Euphoria Music Festival, Air Up There 3.0, and Wakarusa 2015. Be sure to grab a copy of their latest release on iTunes.
