The Denver duo step up their game on EP that signifies a new chapter in their sound and production.
Review by Mikey Rodge
Krooked Drivers have a new EP out now called ‘Still Life’, in what is arguably their best effort to date. Coming your way via Super Best Records, the Denver duo keep the spirit of J Dilla alive with 6 electronic hiphop jams filled with emotive instrumental samples and classic vocal hooks taken from tunes by Busta Rhymes, Timbaland, Dr. Dre, and several others. All blended with dynamic bass lines and heavy drum patterns. The new EP isn’t strictly samplebased, they have also featured a handful of guest rappers and vocalists lending verses to 2 tracks.
The lead single off the EP is “No Worries” and features the folkhop group Grim & Darling. Along with fellow Colorado producer DeluXe, they provide a haunting electrosoul tune that perfectly compliments the style that Grim & Darling bring to the table. On the opening track, “Left Behind”, Krooked Drivers create an upbeat vibe that is as funky as it is soulful, and the classic vocal samples will leave you salivating for more. The standout jam on this EP is “I Give Up”, featuring Texas rapper Jay Fresh. You probably have heard Jay’s work before, the gifted lyricist has lent his rhymes to several tunes by artists such as Gramatik, Paper Diamond, SuperVision, Marvel Years, Haywyre, and several others. Jay steals the show on this track, his uncanny flow is flawless throughout a slammin’ beat that is permeated with heavy synths and basslines. Easily the most hype song of the bunch. Krooked Drivers have really stepped up their game on this one, you will definitely want to have a listen and download the full EP below.
